Take a slice

“Honey, you murdered that slice of cake“ - Mom

Project

When it comes to cutting even cake slices, I’m not the most adept as proclaimed by witnesses. So I thought, “Wouldn’t it be great if I could have a template guide to help me cut this cake?“

Being this my first AR project my main goal was to create an AR experience that would allow users to project an outline to help divide anything from cakes to pizzas to pies.

The MVP

  • Projecting outline onto the cake

  • Allowing the user to choose how many slices they want

  • Selecting the shape of the cake [rectangle or circle]

  • Resizing to fit the shape/circumference of the cake

Creating the AR filter

This being my first project in Spark AR I learned through some tutorials on YouTube. Building the cake divider was relatively simple following the tutorials and helpful templates, however, I definitely ran into a few speed bumps.

I realized Spark AR didn’t have all the interactive capabilities that I’d hoped to include such as having multiple toggles for switching between the shapes and number of slices on the cake. So adjusting to what I could do, I created a cake divider for circle cakes only and used the stickers to mimic the slices of pie.

Using Adobe Illustrator I created the template outlines since this was going to be projected and pinned onto a physical space. It’s still rough but it functioned the way I want. Hoping to adjust it more before publishing it!
